QUOTES

" I think if you're fame-hungry, go out to a nightclub and get drunk...why do that? I don't understand how some people would want fame so bad that they'd go out and get negative attention to earn it."

"You always have to remember that bullies want to bring you down because you have something that they admire. Also, when you get made fun of-when people point out your weaknesses, it's an opportunity for you to rise above."

On his song 'Ladies' Choice': "The songwriters decided to give Link a cool, upbeat, Elvis-style number, and it's the perfect time for it in the movie. Ladie's Choice establishes the connection between Tracy and Link. And it's the kind of number you need in a sixties musical: the rock n' roll band at the record hop, with bright colors and backup dancers."

"It’s been great. I grew up so far removed from this industry and so far away from L.A. I just fell in love with theater, and after being so focused on school my whole life and musical theater, specifically, being my creative outlet, I can’t believe that it has turned into something more than that. I’m grateful and thankful and amazed at how it’s all turned out. I’m still on the craziest ride of my life."

"Musicals are very different from other films. And as an actor, when you’re preparing for one, you train an entirely different skill set altogether. And as an audience member, I know the feeling I have when I leave a musical is unrivaled by any other type of film. I love watching things blow up, but it doesn’t really excite me -- and I can’t sing that on the way home. So, musicals are cool. They’re unique, and I’m glad that we’re doing more of them."

On who he identifies with more - Link Larkin or Troy Bolton?: "For different reasons, both. I’d like to be more like Troy. I don’t want to be shallow. I don’t want to be a follower. So I just cop out and say Troy. Also, Link’s way cooler than I am. What am I going to say? He’s the stud. I’m not like that."

Difference between TV movies and big-budget features: "One of the major differences is the amount of time and liberties we had on Hairspray abound compared to High School Musical. They’re really two different types of films altogether. The other one is about kids. This movie deals more with established characters and, also has such a talented, older cast. I felt like I had to give it 110 percent in every scene to keep up. Also, the training was a lot more intense, we had three months of rehearsals."

"I wish I could say I see my little brother more. We used to fight all the time but now that I don't see him very often I cherish the time I have with him."

"We shot High School Musical in eight weeks. I spent longer rehearsing for Hairspray than filming High School Musical."

"Being known for musicals is a great thing."

"Working out is my biggest hobby. It's my Zen hour. I just zone out."

"If I splurge on anything, it's cologne. I love smelling good."

"Jesse (McCartney) is one of the nicest people around. I hate when I hear bad things about him, because anyone who knows him would agree that he's a good guy and really humble."

"I've been doing musical theater since I was a kid. And look for a CD from me in the future. I want to write all the songs!"

"I was influenced when I was younger by the cartoon movies that Disney put out, like Cinderella and what not. I watched those movies over and over when I was younger and the music is ingrained into my head. Nowadays, I'm still humming the tunes. It taught me the fundamentals."

"In sixth grade, my basketball team made it to the league championships. In double overtime, with three seconds left, I rebounded the ball and passed it - to the wrong team! They scored at the buzzer and we lost the game. To this day, I still have nightmares!"

"I'm very competitive by nature. And I like to be the underdog - It's the best way to win. To come from behind and win is a great feeling!"

"From day one, I got addicted to being on stage and getting the applause and laughter."

"Ashley and I are very good friends, but at this point we are not dating. But, who knows about the future?"

"I think it's fine for girls to ask boys out. I actually prefer it."

"Personally, I was never the cool kid. I was always sort of a bookworm. I would just like to be more like Troy, because he's so cool."

"Amanda Bynes and I have become close since filming Hairsray. It's so weird because I grew up watching her."

On his on-screen chemistry with Vanessa: "At callbacks, it was a mix-and-match session. We were stuck together through the entire process. But at the time, we didn't know if it was chemistry or just they didn't like us or what was going on. I guess we noticed it from the beginning. I still don't know what it is...I think it's just...I don't know...she's fun."

"High School Musical has been a blessing and a gift."

About living on his own: "I wake up every mourning and make myself breakfast. I do the dishes and the laundry, and clean up the place."

"I usually spend Valentines Day with my friends. But if I did have a girlfriend, I'd bring her flowers and candy."

"I love the discussions online, They can pick out things in the movie that you’d never dreamed people would find out. I don’t go that often. I try not to because it can either give you a big head or tear you down."

"I like when a girl knows what she looks like and dresses to accentuate those features."
