QUOTES
"I'm never attracted to the gorgeous guy. Jude Law? Yeah, he's beautiful, but that's not my type. I love when people are smart. My dad is a dentist and reads all the time, and is always talking to me about stuff in the paper. So I think I'm looking for someone to fill my dad's shoes, and that'll be hard. But I don't want to get married yet – I just want to have fun!"
"I enjoy doing things some girls may not like to do because they won't look gorgeous."
On John Travolta as Edna Turnblad: "It says a lot for his self-confidence. He's an amazing dancer. Watch him kicking his legs underneath his dress. You can't believe how fast they're moving! "
On Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears: "I just hope that everyone's careful, because as seen by the people before us, you can die from that kind of stuff. They're really talented. It's unfortunate that there are these other demons in the way."
"Drinking just doesn't appeal to me. I don't know if it's the bloated feeling or the not-being-aware-of-yourself thing. I don't want to be a complete mess. I just don't think that's cute."
"Movies are different now than they’ve ever been; the movie world is different. I think studios like to make movies like "Borat" more, because there’s no ego, it’s just like, "Wow." It’s cheap to make, and then they do really well. So I feel like the whole movie star aspect is kind of getting blurrier. You know what I mean? Because I feel like sometimes, big movie stars don’t necessarily bring good box office anymore. So I think for me, I want to do roles that are different and hopefully challenging."
"I don't think there's necessarily a "Prince Charming" for every girl. I don't know if there is someone for everyone. Every person is so different, and I don't think there is an exact match for every person. If you meet someone and they have 20 of the 25 things you want in a person, then you're pretty lucky."
"It's stuff you liked when you were young, but with a more flattering fit. Thermals and hoodies with hearts, rainbows and stars. My favorite thing is a little dress with big wooden buttons. I'm dying to wear it!"
"I get excited for the fall because I like layering my clothes, and that doesn't really work in the summer. Plus, I love shopping for new fall stuff, like cute jackets and tights."
"I'm the girl whose biggest nightmare would be to lose my makeup bag while travelling."
"I would love to go to college and I definitely will at some point in my life but right now I'm, you know, I'm doing a show, I'm you know, doing press for me to be in school I just couldn't be fully there and I want to really be there."
"People have a preconceived notion about who I am and it's interesting. It's like picking who you want to win for the Oscars and not seeing the movie."
"I love to draw and I love to paint so I don't know if I'll ever do it professionally but I definitely enjoy doing that right now."
"I don't feel like I've missed out because I've gotten to go back, and I've never not been in school. Whenever I'm off, I go there. I've always gotten to go for half the year, and I still have my friends. I think I got the best of both worlds. Some people may not have liked this life but for me personally it was exactly the kind of thing I wanted. I feel so happy and lucky I get to do and I wouldn't want to change it."
"Before you make a statement about someone, get all the information and see everything before you make a judgment. I don't like being compared to anyone or being in a class with someone. I'm a teen actress and therefore I'm competing against Hilary Duff. We're different people like everyone else."
"I love and fascinated by psychology so that would be something that I would like to learn more about so anything that would help me in my life and I am so lucky to be doing what I love, you know, for a living so I would love to learn something that would just sort of help me have my best."
"I've grown up with kids watching me and as they're growing up, I'm growing up, and hopefully they can get a good message from it."
On filming in the UK: "I think as soon as you get off the plane and get in the car, the actual driving on the other side and the driver being the passenger is just weird. It seemed to give me a headache automatically."
"Going to another country you're not in your house, you're with people you've never met before, and I think it's definitely a good growing experience."
"The one [dress] I wanted to keep was the white dress. I thought if I ever get married one day, it would be a big help. [Then] at the end, I had to wear it for so long, it had given me bruises and it wasn't as comfortable."
"Even scripts that are good could end up not working."
"I love movies that have a good story. I love movies that make you feel good about yourself but I also love movies make you walk away thinking about them. I like things that have you know something to them."
"When I found out Colin [Firth] was doing it I was shocked that he would be near me, let alone do a movie with me. "
"There's no exact 'how to' but he's [Colin Firth] so natural that when he does it, I don't ever see him studying lines, he always brings something to it. He's hard on himself and will do the take 50 times and make sure it's right. Having that type of commitment and stamina is really impressive and a good role model."
"I like stuff that's dark, some solid stuff, jeans and clunky boots."
"I'm so into classic, good things. I'm really not into prints. I like solid colors - either black, white, green, pink, whatever. I'm not really into flowers."
"I think they wanted the movie to have some glimmer of clumsiness, I think there's so much more to the movie than that. That's a minute part of it. I think in some of the previews that is magnified as something maybe for the kids, that they would enjoy. There is so much more to the movie than just the pratfalls."
"I don't like reading scripts because I'm everywhere, and I have such a short attention span."
"He [Colin Firth] was amazing. Even better than I thought he would be. He's down to earth and has such a good sense of humor and is so charming and such a lovely guy."
"I think, I mean some people do compete. I've never been the type I've never been, you know, the cut throat type. I mean I've always had my mind set that in this business there are so many movies to make, so there's room for all of us. I mean if there was only me I'd be exhausted."
"It was my first time getting to go somewhere by myself. I would just walk around and go to the park and go shopping. I was centered in Piccadilly, which is close to everything. I just met a lot of really cool people that were on the crew. Everyone was so nice. It was an entirely British crew except for Kelly Preston and I and Dennie [Gordon]. I'm so protected in my Nickelodeon bubble and What I Like About You. It's all pretty much the same people I've worked with and it was pretty protected."
On dressing up: "I like that, too. I like the dress-up part. In real life, I'm into sweats and never like that, but I do like to get dressed up, like most girls."
"Peanut Butter. I even named a dog Peanut Butter once! I can not have it. It's so creamy and delicious."
"I loved Clueless. That was one of my favorite movies of all time. When that came out, I was fairly young. It was a more teenage movie with adult-type stories, but there's something about watching a movie with girl empowerment. It gets a cliché name and it's stupid, but it's really important for girls. I think Legally Blonde did that, too, because it was a fun way to feel good about being a girl. I like that message. I don't want to do that forever but I think it was perfect for me at that time."
"The first time I got the script, it said The Amanda Show on it. I thought they were kidding. I'm still little Amanda, and to be getting my own show, it's like, oh, my gosh! It was my first season of All That. Kenan Thompson and I were playing ping-pong in this scene, and we were supposed to collide heads. As we were falling down, I hit myself in the lip with the paddle. I looked down and saw a puddle of blood, and I had to be rushed to the studio hospital with a swollen lip. My friend was like, 'Don't worry, Amanda. It doesn't look too bad you know, thousands of women pay [for collagen injections] to have their lips that big. I'm the type of person who believes that everything happens for a reason, and at the time that it's supposed to. So now... other ideas are coming up for other movies and everything is just happening really wonderfully. People don't recognize I'm getting older. They see reruns of All That so they assume I'm ten years old. I'm 16. I'm almost 5' 8. I'm driving now. I'm a positive person. People should find happiness in the little things, like family. I think my parents are a big part of that because I'm still a normal kid. Like there are times I get frustrated because I want to wear certain shoes and they don't want me to wear them. It's all good in the end because I realize that there will be a time and place for high shoes."
